Over the last five or six years, video has become a major part of what I do. I shot my first commercial video back in 2009 with a Canon 5D2, one of the first cameras to put professional videography in the hands of anyone who could afford a D-SLR. Since those early days, I’ve upped my game and now usually shoot a two (or sometimes three) camera setup with a Canon Cinema camera and an R5 or R3. I love to tell stories through video.

One of my top clients has me traveling across the country to regularly shoot videos of their dermatology and cosmetic providers, which then get turned into website promotional videos and reels on social media. They’re a lot of fun to shoot and I love working with their healthcare teams to get their messages out to the public.

I think I must’ve logged over 15,000 miles driving to locations across the country last year for video and photo shoots, including trips to Texas, Arizona, Tennessee and Delaware. Why don’t you just fly, you ask…? Well, I bring along too much gear to comfortable fly with, and by driving, I can have a car full of everything I might need, as well as backups of most equipment in case the unthinkable happens on a shoot.

Permanent cosmetics anyone? Dermatologist shoot in Minneapolis, April 2023

That being said, I enjoy a good road trip, and nothing beats a day or two (or three or four) away from the office, hitting the open road listening to music or audiobooks and watching the countryside go by. I also find that I do some of my best planning ahead while driving.

Dust Bowl region, Meade County, Kansas– I always bring my drone along and if there’s time on the journey, I’ll take some back roads to explore the area.

I’ve had some time this week to upload a few new videos to my portfolio page. If you have a few minutes, check out my work by clicking the VIDEO tab in the menu bar, or click on the button below. If your company is looking to spruce up your website or put some reels up on social media, send me an email; I’d love to help you out.
